Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - As of July 2021 the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, or JCSM, at Auburn University will begin participating in a study that measures social impact in the Lee County community and surrounding counties this fall. The JCSM was selected to participate in this study after a competitive application process where only 38 institutions were selected with Auburn being the only university selected in the SEC.

WASHINGTON, DC. (EETV) - President Biden has signed a bill that officially recognizes June 19 as a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery within the United States. The official name for the holiday is Juneteenth National Independence Day and is the first federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - On June 11, 2021, Auburn University announced that Jay Gogue’s second term as President of the University would soon be coming to an end. The Auburn Board of Trustees were informed at the June 11 meeting by Gouge that it was time to search for a new President explaining, “I’ve been back a couple of years, and I think it’s about time you do that”.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV) - Katie Britt formally announced her candidacy for the US Senate for the 2022 election this past Tuesday. The seat in Alabama is being vacated following the 117th Congress as Senator Richard Shelby announced he would not be seeking re-election. The announcement was made over Britt's social media.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - As more and more of the Alabama population reaches complete vaccination against COVID-19 (currently 30% of the adult population of Alabama), Auburn University continues to respond by rolling back COVID precautions that have been in place for just under a year. In addition to the lifting of its mask mandate, the University has announced that a Healthcheck 'Green Screen' passport is no longer necessary in most situations.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Facilities Management for Auburn University has published their summer project map for 2021. With 114 total projects listed, there is everything from updated lighting, flooring and HVACs to a recording studio in Goodwin Hall. Also scheduled to be completed this summer is the highly anticipated Academic Classroom and Laboratory Complex (ACLC) and Central Dining Facility.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - As more of Auburn’s students, faculty, and staff become vaccinated, the University has made the decision to enter into Phase 3 of their vaccination distribution plan. The third phase of Auburn’s plan extends vaccine distribution to include area community residents of the age 12 and older as well as Auburn University retirees and the family members or dependents of university employees. In addition, the Pfizer vaccine has now been made available at the university to inoculate children as young as 12 while other manufacturer’s vaccines will be accessible to those of the age 18 and older.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - The final construction beam in the Rane Center at Auburn University was raised last week in front of a large gathering of Auburn and even some Alabama state officials, including Governor Kay Ivey. Ivey, in a statement, said that the Culinary Science Center would benefit tourism and hospitality industries in Alabama and “definitely put us on the map worldwide.”

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - On Thursday May 13th, Governor Kay Ivey signed Senate Bill 388, otherwise known as the Daylight Savings Time Bill, into law. The bill passed after being voted upon in the Alabama House of Representatives 93 to 1 and passed the Alabama Senate without a dissenting vote.
