Auburn under Tropical Storm Watch, high winds expected

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn has been placed under a Tropical Storm Watch by the National Weather Service.  As Monday nears our area can expect to see an onset of Tropical Storm Winds between 30 and 50 mph. In our area, we could see downed trees and power outages. The Auburn area could also see 1-3 inches of rain. EagleEyeAubrun.com will have full coverage as Irma makes her track toward our area.

Auburn University cancels classes ahead of Hurricane Irma

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University has canceled classes for Monday, September 11, 2017, ahead of Hurricane Irma.  Our area is expected to see a mostly wind event on Monday with gusts up to 50mph. Hurricane Irma strengthens to category 5, path inches west

The National Hurricane Center has released a new statement as of 11:00 pm (EST) Friday increasing Hurricane Irma to a category 5 storm. The Storm is now making land fall on the coast of Cuba. Hurricane warnings have been extended Northward Along the Florida Peninsula as the storm is expected to make land fall as a category 5 storm in south Florida this weekend. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicated that the storm had maximum sustained winds near 160 mph with even higher gusts. On the latest track from the National Hurricane Center, Irma is projected to make landfall further west than previously expected. As the storm nears our area, it will still be a Tropical Storm as previously projected. Wind gusts are still expected to be around 30-50 miles per hour with the possibility of 2-4 inches of rain.

State of Emergency issued for Alabama

Montgomery, Ala. (EETV) – Governor Kay Ivey has issued a State of Emergency ahead of Hurricane Irma, which is expected to begin affecting Alabama late this weekend and into the beginning of next week.

Opelika Ice cream shop opening its doors to evacuees

Opelika, Ala. (EETV) - As Hurricane Irma bares down on the state of Florida, the smallest evacuees in our area are finding comfort in an unusual place. O-Town ice cream in Opelika took to twitter inviting visiting families to come by their store to give their children a free Ice cream. One woman headed to Opelika responded to the tweet with an unusual request, a sweet treat for her fur babies. The store has seen a huge response since the tweet was posted, many thanking them for their kindness.

Auburn hotels reach capacity as evacuees flee Irma

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - As Hurricane continues to barrel towards the Florida coast, Hotels around the area are beginning to fill up. According to John Wild, President of the Auburn Opelika Tourism Bureau, our area has reached capacity for hotel availability. "Reservations & Cancellations change often as does the storm path." says WIld, "We have taken lots of calls but it seems we are at capacity." Evacuees fleeing from the storms typically find shelter farther south but previously scheduled events have pushed people further north.  "Dothan had a large tennis tournament and is full so they sent people to us.

Basketball to hold Pro Day Oct. 11

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn men's basketball will have their first Pro Day on Oct. 11 at the Auburn Arena. The Pro Day will host NBA general managers, front office personnel, and scouts. Auburn is ranked 24th nationally in ESPN's BPI ratings and will return many team leaders who led the Tigers to 18-14 last season. Last season, the Tigers top scorers were all freshmen: Mustapha Heron, Jared Harper, Danjel Purifoy, and Austin Wiley, all of whom are returning for the 2017-2018 season. The Tiger's will host the Pro Day a month before they tip off their 2017-2018 season on Nov.

On-campus organization offers meals to students

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Any Auburn student can now get up to four free microwavable meals meals on Fridays, thanks to The Campus Kitchen. The Campus Kitchen is a student-run organization that collects left over campus dining food and repackages it into microwavable meals.

Auburn ranked among the best Small Towns by Southern Living

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn has been ranked as one of The South’s Best Small Towns 2017 by Southern Living. Two Alabama cities Auburn (7) and Florence (10) made the list, which was determined by a survey of more than 22,000 Southern Living readers.  Towns selected span across the south and share traits such as “a thriving downtown with locally owned restaurants, shops, and galleries; a touch of the artsy; loads of character; friendly locals; and, of course, a beautiful location." The list highlighted Auburn’s tree-shaded streets and old storefronts as elements that lend to its quality.

Notasulga man arrested on Burglary, Theft, charges

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - On September 5, 2017, Auburn Police arrested Dejarius D. Hightower, 28, from Notasulga, Alabama on warrants charging him with; two counts of Burglary 3rd degree, Theft of Property 4th degree, Criminal Mischief 1st degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, and two counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd degree. The arrest stems from an investigation into separate business burglaries on West Tech Lane and Teague Court on December 26th & 27th, 2016.
