Auburn, AL (EETV)- In their weekly Covid-19 update, Auburn University reported 78 positive cases for the week of January 24th. This is 35 fewer cases than the week before which saw 113 test positive. The total number of positive cases since September 6th is 1,786 for Auburn's Main Campus.
Auburn, AL (EETV) - Auburn University's Student Government Association begins a week of campaigning leading up to the elections of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Miss Auburn, and a variety of minor positions located within specific colleges. Campaign Week will officially kickoff on January 27 at 3:00 P.M., conducted online over Zoom. The following day will hold candidate debates at 6:00 P.M., also conducted online via Zoom.
Auburn, AL (EETV) - Retired four-star Army general and former Auburn University student, Lloyd Austin, was appointed January 22 as the 28th Secretary of Defense. Austin became the first African American to hold the position. The nomination of the retired Army general required a waiver to be passed by both the House and Senate, as Austin was only four years removed from his military duties as opposed to the legally mandated seven. However, both the House and Senate passed Austin's waiver and Austin was confirmed by the Senate with a vote of 93-2.
AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University has decided to extend the deadline for optional online instruction until Sunday, February 7th. Auburn will resume full on-site campus operations on Monday, February 8th. This one-week extension allows for the university to review additional COVID-19 policy changes recently announced by the Biden administration.

Auburn, AL (EETV) - Former Kansas State University senior vice president for development, John Morris, joins the Auburn family to lead more than 200 individuals in Auburn's combined Offices of Alumni Affairs, Development, and Communications and Marketing. These merged offices were created to develop an efficient, organized team that is focused on promoting a "shared, strategically focused vision of Auburn," according to President Jay Gogue.
Auburn, AL (EETV) - The AU Medical Clinic has reported 111 new cases of COVID-19 on Auburn's main campus during the week of January 17th. In the update prior to this week, only 58 new cases had been reported.

Auburn, AL (EETV) - The Opelika Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of an 18- year-old man. The crash occurred on Columbus Parkway at North Uniroyal Road.
