Pet of the week: Gibbs

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- This week's Lee County Humane Society pet of the week is Gibbs.  Gibbs was rescued from a "hoarding situation" in May by shelter officials.

New grocery delivery service comes to Auburn and Opelika

Auburn, Ala. — Instacart, a same-day grocery delivery service, is expected to come to Auburn on June 28. Founded by former Amazon employee Apoorva Mehta, the company gives customers the opportunity to shop for goods at in-store prices and have these groceries delivered to their homes at a delivery window of one hour or up to five days in advance. Instacart’s customers mainly access the site through mobile apps on iPhone or Android, but can also access the main website. The service will be available to over 40,000 people who live across Auburn, Opelika, Waverly, Gold Hill, Woodland Hills, Woodfield, The Bottle, Wrights Croassroads, Whippoorwill Estates and Beauregard. Customers will be able to order from stores such as CVS pharmacy and Publix.

Auburn, Ala. — Meet this week’s Lee County Humane Society pet of the week, Ernest! Ernest is described as a “sweet old gentleman” who loves napping, a fresh bowl of food and rolling in the grass.  He is a nine-year-old dog, so he is laid back and would enjoy a home on the quieter side.

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- This week's Lee County Humane Society Pet of the Week is Rivers. Rivers is a two year old dog who has been at the shelter for around two months. Officials say that he is well behaved and potty trained.

The man behind "Dumps Like a Truck"

Auburn, Ala. -- In 2014, Whitley Dykes posted a picture of a meal cooked by his mother-in-law on his Instagram account with the caption, “Dumps like a truck,”: a picture that would change his life forever. Dykes got the idea to open the food truck with the help of his wife because of what he called, “A lack of places for the many Chinese to get authentic food in Auburn.” The name was inspired by the famous “Thong Song” by the artist, Sisqó, and its line, “dumps like a truck.” Dykes took this line from the song and started a food truck with a purpose.

Auburn presents their 12th annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk

Auburn, Ala. -- The city of Auburn is getting ready to host their 12th annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk, on Friday, June 8. This event is described on their website as, "an arts festival that transforms downtown Auburn into its very own arts district." The event features music, art by local artists, street performers, food and children's activities.  This year's entertainment will be the local band, Spoonful James.

Pet of the Week: Darcy

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- This week's Lee County Humane Society Pet of the Week is Darcy. Darcy is one of over 60 kittens currently available for adoption at the shelter.  Shelter officials say that Darcy i loves snuggling up in laps and chasing toys with her kitty friends.

East Alabama elementary school "raps" up the school year with a fun tune

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (EETV) - "Alright teachers, let's kick it." One East Alabama school "rapped" up the school year in an icy way. The secretary at Lakewood Elementary dropped a beat over the PA system before officially signing off for the summer. Amanda Owens, with the help of long-time physical education teacher Courtney Cooper, performed a parody of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" which they found on YouTube. "Yo, let's get out of here! Pet of the week: Quincy

Auburn, Ala. -- Meet this week's Lee County Humane Society pet of the week, Quincy! Quincy is a two-year-old pup, who the humane society describes as charming to everyone he meets. Quincy found himself at the Lee County Humane Society in January. Quincy is a laid back dog, but always loves a good game of fetch or going on a walk.  His adoption fee is $25 and he would need to meet any potential furry siblings before coming home.

Pet of the Week: Anduril

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- This week's Pet of the Week is Anduril.  Anduril was acquired by the Lee County Human Society from the hoarding situation last week.  According to society employees, Anduril is a very friendly and affectionate.  Officials say that Anduril is recovering from an upper respiratory infection, but his health is improving.

Auburn Navy ROTC members marching to honor fallen Marines

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)– On Wednesday, May 9, a group of 44 Marines, Sailors and Midshipman of the Auburn University Navy ROTC will depart on a three-day, 209-mile ruck march from Auburn to Navarre, Florida. "Rucking for Raiders" is in memory of the members of Marine Special Operations Team 8231, or The Raider 7, an elite group of Marines who perished in a helicopter crash during a training accident on March 10, 2015. Staff Sgt.

Pet of the Week: Amber

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Meet this week's Lee County Humane Society Pet of the Week, Amber.  Amber is about two years old, and she's been with the shelter for about two months. According to the shelter she mostly likes to do her own thing, but is definitely a fan of the occasional snuggle session.  When she's not loving on you, Amber enjoys taking lengthy naps in the sunlight and snacking on tasty treats.
