Auburn researchers use grant program to improve agricultural costs and efficiency

Auburn, Ala. -- The Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station’s Production Agriculture Research grants program (PAR) at Auburn University is attempting to resolve problems for farmers, such as high costs and inefficiency. The PAR program has a total commitment of $445,138 to the nine project it will fund this year.

First-ever SEC Summerfest Kickoff to be held in Atlanta

Auburn Police charge man with unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle

(EETV)-  On Sunday afternoon at about 12:40 p.m., Auburn Police responded to an interrupted auto burglary call at a home located in the 500 block of Lee Road 57.  An individual, later identified by police as Stephen William Blalock, was allegedly seen unlawfully inside of a 1998 Jeep Wrangler parked at the residence.

Opelika Police looking for suspect in apparent Walmart theft

OPELIKA, Ala. (EETV)- The Opelika Police Department is investigating a possible Fraudulent Use of a Credit/Debit Card and a Theft of Property complaint alleged to have occurred June 23 at the Opelika Walmart.  Police say that the suspect entered the store and made multiple major purchases using a stolen credit card. Police describe the suspect as as a 5’08” black female weighing approximately 230 lbs.

New grocery delivery service comes to Auburn and Opelika

Auburn, Ala. — Instacart, a same-day grocery delivery service, is expected to come to Auburn on June 28. Founded by former Amazon employee Apoorva Mehta, the company gives customers the opportunity to shop for goods at in-store prices and have these groceries delivered to their homes at a delivery window of one hour or up to five days in advance. Instacart’s customers mainly access the site through mobile apps on iPhone or Android, but can also access the main website. The service will be available to over 40,000 people who live across Auburn, Opelika, Waverly, Gold Hill, Woodland Hills, Woodfield, The Bottle, Wrights Croassroads, Whippoorwill Estates and Beauregard. Customers will be able to order from stores such as CVS pharmacy and Publix.

Kay Ivey announced on Wednesday, June 27, that LG Electronics has made plans to invest $28 million in pursuit of creating a world-class solar module assembly plant in Huntsville, Alabama, which will create 160 new jobs. LG, a leading provider of residential solar panels in the U.S., has plans to create a new factory, consisting of two production lines, which will be at a pre-existing building on their company's 48-acre Huntsville campus.

Auburn library debuts Aubie exhibit

City of Auburn holds job fair to help those displaced by MasterPlan

Auburn, Ala. — The City of Auburn announced a partnership with local businesses and Auburn City Schools to host a job fair on Tuesday, June 19, from 3 - 8 p.m. The job fair is to assist those recently laid off by the closing of MasterBrand’s Auburn plant. The company stunned employers and city officials on June 12 by announcing its closure because of ‘market conditions and changes in consumer taste.’ Auburn City officials announced their efforts to assist in placing the 445 affected employees in jobs. “It’s great to see the entire community coming together in this critical time for those who lost their jobs this week,” said Cary Cox, the City of Auburn’s workforce development director.

Former Tuskegee police lieutenant convicted for assaulting arestee

Tuskegee, Ala. -- Former Tuskegee police lieutenant Alex Hunley, was convicted for his role in the beating of a compliant, handcuffed arrestee and a cover-up of the incident in 2014. According to evidence presented at the trial, Huntley arrested a man who scuffled with police near the Tuskegee town square and directed a fellow police officer to transport him back to the Tuskegee Police Department for booking.
