Attorney General Steve Marshall joins other state officials in supporting new school safety program

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV)- Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has endorsed Gov. Kay Ivey's new school safety proposal.

The proposal, called the Alabama Sentry Program, allows specially trained school administrators to be armed in order to prevent potential school shooting treats.

“I share Governor Ivey’s concerns that every effort be made to ensure that all Alabama’s schools have the ability to protect our children by quickly responding to threats to their safety,” said Marshall.

The program will only be located in schools that do not have school resource officers.

Marshall isn't the only official to endorse the new program, Alabama School Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Hal Taylor joined Ivey at the program's announcement Wednesday.
