Auburn's French Club hosts Art Night

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The French Club hosted an Art Night March 3, where students learned about two different art styles – impressionism and fauvism – and had the opportunity to create their own paintings based in these art styles. The event began with some vocabulary words to help students recognize some key terms, and the information was presented in both English and French.

The new president of the club, Caroline Cannon, said that this theme was inspired by her recent fascination with the art styles, and this personal investment is what makes the club special – it’s all about creating community through shared interest.

Former club president Nate Hendrickson said that his particular interest was in French cuisine, so many of the past events were geared towards teaching members about cooking and food. He emphasized that anyone even remotely interested in anything French is urged to join; members can bring their own special interests and share their knowledge and enthusiasm with their fellow students. He noted, “I also met, like, some of my best friends who speak French in this club and then have spoken a lot of French with them outside of this club as well.” This goes to show the lasting impact this club has had on Auburn students and how it facilitates cultural connections.

As we can tell from this artistic get-together, the French club isn’t just about language. It also focuses heavily on culture and boasts a wide range of event types: trivia nights, homework help, film screenings, guest speakers, and more to engage a wide variety of student interests. This is all to create multi-cultural connections and provide an opportunity for French fun! This painting night allowed members the space to explore new interests and create a special memento to take with them.

Some upcoming French Club events to note are a collaboration on May 5with the Spanish Club and the Latinx Student Alliance, and the International Student Organization (ISO) World Fair on March 26. More information can be found on AUInvolve.
