Spring Break safety tips

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn University's spring break starts Friday, and many students will be traveling and having fun with friends during the break.  With spring break comes an increased risk for dangers associated with excessive alcohol consumption and additional traffic on major roadways. "The safest approach is just not do dangerous activities," said Dr. Alan Moore, Medical Director of the East Alabama Medical Center Emergency Department, "in particular don't drive if you're drinking at all." According to the Centers for Disease Control, a person dies in an alcohol-related car crash every 31 minutes, deaths that Alabama's law enforcement officials want to prevent this spring break season. "Alabama law forbids open containers," said Corporal Jesse Thornton with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, "If you are under 21 don't be drinking, if you are of legal age to be consuming alcohol do it responsibly do not get on the highways." Officials remind students to be aware of what they are doing during the break and to not let one week of bad decisions impact the rest of their life. "Understand that spring break lasts one week versus the rest of your life," said Thornton.
