Missed Opportunities Cost Auburn in Loss to Alabama

Auburn, AL (EETV)- The fourth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide snapped Auburn's eleven game winning streak with a 6-0 victory in. game one of the series.

Alabama rattled freshman pitcher Maddie Penta, who gave up three home runs over five innings. The Crimson Tide were led by Bailey Hemphill who hit two home runs to notch her 200th RBI of her career.

Lexi Kilfoyl earned her fourth shutout of the season with a career high of 10 strikeouts. The Tigers were able to get seven hits, but failed to score a run after loading the bases twice in the first and third inning.

Coach Mickey Dean commented on the loss saying, "When facing a lineup as experienced as theirs, it's not the singles that get you, it's the balls that leave the park. Great hitting teams are going to make you pay for your mistakes."

One positive for the Tigers was Makenna Dowell who went 2 for 3 with two singles and a career high five putouts in the field. Sydney Cox opened her SEC debut with a 2 for 3 preformance at the plate.

Auburn will face Alabama in the second game of the series at 4pm on Saturday. The game will be broadcasted on SEC Network Plus.
