Opelika, Ala (EETV) – A 252-unit apartment community is coming to Opelika following the groundbreaking of Springs at Opelika near Gateway and Capps drives.
The development, led by Continental Properties and McShane Construction Co., will offer studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Some units will feature private entrances and attached garages. Pre-leasing will begin in the spring of 2027, with move-ins anticipated in July next year.
City officials and developers have described the project as another sign of continued investment and growth in Opelika, as the apartments are expected to provide additional housing options and generate economic activity in the area.
However, the announcement has drawn mixed reactions from residents, particularly on social media. Some have expressed concerns about increased traffic and whether local roads and infrastructure can accommodate the area’s continued growth. Others have questioned rising rental prices and whether new apartment developments will make housing more affordable.
“Traffic is already a concern in that area, and adding more homes could make it worse,” one resident wrote in response to the announcement.
Another resident questioned the development’s effect on affordability, writing, “More housing doesn’t necessarily mean more affordable housing.”
As Opelika continues to attract residential and commercial development, Springs at Opelika has become part of a broader conversation about how the city can accommodate growth while addressing concerns about traffic, housing costs and infrastructure.
