Late Comeback Pushes Old Dominion over Auburn

AUBURN, AL (EETV) — The Auburn Tigers came into Auburn Arena on Thursday night with a 1-0 record after a close win over the Wofford Terriers last week. The tigers were hoping to improve to 2-0 but the Old Dominion Monarchs had other plans.

Both teams came out hot as the monarchs and the tigers put up impressive totals in the 1st quarter with the score at 24-21 and the monarchs leading Auburn after hitting 5 3’s in the quarter alone. Auburn kept it close and found themselves down 2 points at halftime.

The tigers found a way to claw themselves back in the game late in the 3rd quarter tying the game up but Old Dominion quickly took control of the 4th quarter after shooting 5-5 from the 3 point line and 90% from the field as a whole.

Defense seemed to be a significant problem for the tigers as Old Dominion finished the game with 89 points on 32-54 shooting and 14-28 from the 3pt line. The final score ended up at 89-77 as Ajah Wayne scored 35 points on 14-20 shooting for Old Dominion as the monarchs handed Auburn their first loss of the season.

While the Tigers received their first loss of the season, several players shined for the tigers. Unique Thompson put up some impressive totals for the Auburn as she had 13 points on 5-6 shooting along with 10 rebounds and 2 assists.

Dasia Alexander led the tigers in scoring with 17 points and also had 4 steals and 2 assists throughout the game and Annie Hughes finished with 12 points on 5-7 shooting, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals as well.

Auburn (1-1) will look to bounce back and improve to 2-1 as they travel to Birmingham to face the UAB Blazers in a non conference battle on Nov. 21.
