Active Minds discuss codependency in college

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - On Tuesday, Oct. 7, Active Minds at Auburn University held a meeting about codependency in college students. Attendees contributed to a guided discussion, deriving from experiences in their own relationships.

Active Minds at Auburn University is an information group focused on fighting the stigma around mental health through open discussion, outreach events and suicide prevention efforts.

Christian Lomack, Treasurer, helped facilitate the event. Lomack spoke with us about how codependency is more common than people may think and can show up in "many different phases of life", though the conversation mostly revolved around codependency in college.

Some signs of codependency include people pleasing, challenges with setting boundaries, fear of abandonment, and needing control of situations and/or people.

The meeting ended with participants writing examples of codependent and interdependent acts on a whiteboard, providing them with actionable ways to make their own relationships more interdependent.
