Auburn baseball loses 7-run lead and the game to Kentucky

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The Auburn Tigers faced the Kentucky Wildcats this Saturday in Plainsman Park. Auburn unfortunately fell 13-8. 

Auburn started off 7-0 crushing the Wildcats, however they ended up losing their big lead.  

The game really kicked off in the second inning when Auburn's Belyeu launched a powerful homerun to center field. This put his team on the scoreboard early with an RBI. Thereafter, Weiss  added to the lead with a flying hit to right field, this then allowed Guevara to advance to third while Deric Fabian crossed home plate, which increased Auburn’s lead to 2-0.

Adding four more runs to the scoreboard, Auburn continued to dominate in the third inning, Stanfield lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing Peirce home. Weiss added another sacrifice fly, which allowed Guevara to score yet again, pushing Auburn's lead to a dominating 7-0.

Proving that Kentucky would not go down without a fight, the fifth inning consisted of McCoy delivering a monumental three-run homer to center field, igniting hope for Kentucky. Nicholson kept the momentum going in the sixth inning with a solo homer, closing the gap to 7-4.

Things heated up during the sixth inning, as Kentucky staged a remarkable comeback. Devin Burkes stepped up with a clutch double to center field, bringing in three runs to tie the game at 7-7. Then, Lopez sealed the deal with a two-run homer to left center, propelling UK into the lead with a score of 9-7.

Kentucky didn't stop there, as Lopez continued his stellar performance with a three-run homer to right field in the eighth inning, extending Kentucky’s lead to 12-7. Waldschmidt added one more run with a double down the left field line in the ninth inning, securing UK's victory with a final score of 13-7.

In the ninth inning, Guevara for Auburn gave fans a hopeful home-run, however; the Auburn Tigers unfortunately could not overcome UK’s dominating performance.
