No. 24 Auburn soccer closes regular season with scoreless draw at Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — No. 24 Auburn soccer closed out its regular-season schedule Sunday afternoon with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Tigers held the Longhorns scoreless to earn another shutout, finishing the regular season 8-2-7 overall and 4-2-4 in Southeastern Conference play.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, with both defenses limiting opportunities in the final third. Auburn created its first clear scoring chance in the 37th minute when junior midfielder Kennedy Husbands put a shot on target, but Texas goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn saved it. Junior midfielder Gracie Brown also tested Flynn just before halftime, but the Longhorns goalkeeper turned away the attempt, keeping the match scoreless heading into the break.

Auburn continued to pressure Texas after halftime, looking for a breakthrough. In the 67th minute, senior midfielder Grace Ivey forced another save from Flynn with a shot that threatened the upper-right corner of the net. The Longhorns goalkeeper made an impressive stop to keep the tie alive.

Texas got its best chance in the 70th minute when Alicia Riggins put a shot on target, but junior goalkeeper Ayana Yapo saved it to keep the Longhorns off the scoreboard.

Auburn kept creating chances late, but second-half attempts from freshman midfielder Kylie Snell, junior forward Layla Sirdah and senior defender Ellie Rebmann were blocked.

The Tigers finished with eight shots, including three on goal, while Texas recorded nine shots and one on target. Yapo finished with one save, while Flynn recorded three for the Longhorns.

The draw marked another historic accomplishment for Auburn's defense. After allowing just five goals in 17 matches, the Tigers broke the program record for fewest goals conceded in a regular season, surpassing the 2022 team's mark of 13.

Auburn also matched its program record with 12 shutouts, tying the 2003 and 2024 teams. The Tigers finished the regular season with the fewest goals allowed and did not concede a single second-half goal all season.

With the regular season complete, Auburn now turns its attention to postseason play. The Tigers earned the No. 6 seed in the SEC Tournament and will face No. 11 seed LSU on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. CT in Pensacola, Florida.
