SEC Honors Awarded to Penta and Koepke

AUBURN, Ala. – Maddie Penta and Maddison Koepke earned honors from the conference office on Tuesday, Auburn softball has four wins and its second win in the Southeastern Conference against No. 12 Kentucky. 

This season Penta won her third SEC Freshman of the Week honor, which is Auburn’s program record. Penta and Missouri’s Jenna Laird shared the award. The first tiger to win the SEC’s Newcomer of the Week award was Koepke. This award is for sophomores only and was established for the 2021 season. 

Koepke started all five games at third base for the Lady Tigers, with four putouts and three assists. She went 3-for-6 with her collegiate double, two RBI and a run scored. 

The Tigers were leading in the sixth inning when Koepke had her first RBI of the season and with a single up the middle to secure the win for Auburn. She has two multi-hits this season in conference plays. 

In Pentas two appearances she turned in a team-low 1.08 of run averages. She only gave up six hits in 13.0 innings to hold the opponents to .143 average at the plate. Penta struck out 15 and combined with KK Dismukes for a shutout. 

Penta started against Alabama State keeping them to only two hits in her six innings. She struck out 11 for her fourth double-digit game of the season. Her and Dismukes combined for a 5-0 shutout. 

This was Auburn’s first home SEC series win against a ranked team since 2018, Penta turned in a complete game against the Wildcats. She kept Kentucky off the board until the fifth inning with two runs and a pair of walks. For her first conference win she struck out four.
