Auburn struggles to defeat Chattanooga after slow start

Nashville, Tenn. (EETV) – Women’s Basketball could not overcome a slow start in a 50-41 loss to Chattanooga to lose the final game of the Challenge in Music City.

Even with senior Janiah McKay leading all scorers with 18 points, the 3-3 Tigers found themselves in a 16-point hole halfway through the second quarter.

A low-scoring first half allowed Chattanooga to open a 23-15 lead preventing Auburn to get more points on the board.

Auburn was able to cut that deficit to as few as five points in the fourth quarter forcing the Mocs to 23 turnovers but Chattanooga took advantage of opportunities to prevent any Auburn comeback.

“We dug a hole too deep and we couldn’t get out," Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said to Auburn Athletics.

With McKay being the only Auburn player in double figures, she earned her spot on the all-tournament team. Senior Tiffany Lewis added eight points against her hometown team, and senior Jessica Jones had six points and five rebounds.

The Tigers are back in the Auburn Arena to tip off against Louisiana-Monroe at 6.pm.
