New Auburn softball coach Mickey Dean is introduced to the media for the first time.

Softball coach Mickey Dean Officially Welcomed to Auburn

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Mickey Dean is no stranger to the spotlight and that’s why Auburn Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs chose him.

The new Auburn head softball coach’s list of accomplishments are staggering, especially his 80% winning percentage at James Madison University, including a 52-8 record in 2017.

When asked about leaving James Madison, Dean took his time and answered. “As excited as I am to be here, it was an emotional departure.”

“The biggest impression left on me is the family environment,” Dean said as he mentioned how his daughter is a junior in high school. “My philosophy is all about culture.”

And the culture that Auburn has runs deep for him. Dean mentioned how one of the positives about being the new head softball coach is that he has always been an Auburn football fan.

“I kinda hope that I get to meet Bo Jackson.” Dean joked.

Dean is coming into an Auburn program reeling after the sudden resignation of coach Clint Myers and then the bombshell revelations of the Title IX investigation and the reports of abuse within the program, centering around his son Corey Myers.

Dean will hold his first practice with the softball team after his closed-door team meeting on Saturday. “Tuesday…” Dean would repeat, showing the eagerness of being ready to jump into the grind immediately.

It won’t be long for Auburn fans to see what Dean can accomplish with the talent on the roster.

The Tigers begin their fall season on Oct. 14 with a doubleheader between Northwest Florida State Community College and Enterprise State Community College.
