Tiger Transit, Auburn University's free bus system, has cut 16 stops for students, starting in the Fall 2026 semester.
This decision follows a third-party review that identified which stops were underperforming based on cost per ride and the number of students using each route. This major transportation change stems from financial constraints, as Tiger Transit’s main source of funding is student fees, with little support from the university.
Cutting stops greatly affects students who rely on Tiger Transit to get to and from campus and who live too far to walk. This leaves those students with few options for getting to campus, as they are now left to either get a parking pass or go to a farther bus stop.
In addition to Tiger Transit cutting stops, they have also modified two stops, Auburn Alumni Center and Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts, as van stops.
Transportation services recommend using the ETA Spot app to address uncertainties about the new routes and get more accurate arrival times and scheduled stops. The transportation department has also asked students with further questions about the new transit routes or schedules to contact them for assistance.
