Road resurfacing work

City of Opelika to begin road resurfacing project

Opelika, Ala. (EETV) - There will be road resurfacing projects going on in the City of Opelika in the coming weeks. We ask the public to please be patient and watch the City of Opelika’s Facebook and Twitter pages for information on where road resurfacing will be occurring.

Thursday, May 18, 2017, the contractor is scheduled to mobilize and resurface Old Columbus Road and the Eastpoint neighborhood from South Uniroyal Road east to the City limits. As the contractor moves from road to road, the City will post updates and notifications.

Traffic will still be able to travel around the moving construction site, but there could be some slowdowns and delays as the crews are working in the roadway. Flaggers will be present to direct drivers, and a pilot car is commonly used to escort traffic around the work area. Driving public is asked to drive slow and use caution while near the work areas because of the presence of numerous dump trucks and large, moving construction equipment. Please be aware of this equipment as well as workers that are commonly needed in the roadway.

There are commonly uneven lanes and slight shoulder drop offs as the contractor proceeds down a section of roadway, but these are common hazards with paving that a car can handle if the driver is aware of them.
