Highlights of Auburn's 63-9 victory over the Alabama State Hornets

Auburn Football defeats Alabama State

Auburn, Ala (EETV)- Auburn played their first home game of the 2018 season against in state opponent Alabama State. The Tigers were coming off of a strong win against a sixth ranked Washington team in Atlanta the previous week.

Auburn came out what seemed to be a little slow on the first drive as JaTarvious Whitlow had the ball knocked out turning the ball over on Auburn's first drive.

Whitlow seemed to respond from that point on using 14 times for 122 yards. As a unit Auburn was able to rush for 429 total yards and six touchdowns. Three of the six touchdowns on the ground came from true freshman

True freshman Anthony Schwartz played a key role in the Tigers win on Saturday, scoring once on a 23 yard jet sweep and once on a 57 yard connection through the air from Jarrett Stidham. Stidham who only played up until late in the second quarter finished 6-11 passing with 113 yards and a touchdown.

The offense was able to put up a strong performance but for the second week in a row Auburn's defense was able to stand out. The defense intercepted three passes from Alabama State Quarterbacks returning one for a touchdown, blocked. punt and returned it for a touchdown, and only allowed 10 first downs and 9 points in the whole game. Daniel Thomas was the highlight of the defense finishing with two interceptions, giving him five for his career. In total, on the defensive side the Tigers only allowed 47 yards on the ground and 205 total.

Auburn looks to keep the momentum going as they face rival LSU at home next Saturday at 2:30 P.M. CT on CBS.
