AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University’s College of Human Sciences hosted the 27th annual International Quality of Life Awards on Monday. Traditionally hosted in New York City, this year’s unusual circumstances forced the awards ceremony to be held virtually. The goal of the International Quality of Life Awards is to honor individuals and organizations that go above and beyond to improve quality of life in their community. This year, the ceremony honored those that were able to improve the quality of life in their community amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The “Heroes of COVID-19” honored at this year’s ceremony included health care professionals,nonprofit organizations, teachers and education leaders, and many more.

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - In an effort to study and reduce the high positivity rate of COVID-19 among the college-aged demographic, Auburn University has partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct a study on mask use behaviors. Other universities across the United States have also partnered with the CDC to conduct similar studies, but Auburn is the first and only university in the state of Alabama to do so. This partnership comes as a result of a call from the Alabama Department of Public Health to address the high infection rate of COVID-19 on college campuses.

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The 27th named storm of this hectic Atlantic hurricane season, Hurricane Zeta is set to be yet another hurricane that strikes the Gulf Coast of the United States. The National Weather Service estimates that Zeta will hit the Auburn/Opelika area early Thursday morning. The northeast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula was struck Monday morning by Zeta’s first landfall. The landfall brought maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour. Moving through the Yucatán Peninsula caused Zeta to regress into a tropical storm, but the return to the Gulf is expected to strengthen Zeta back to its previous Category 1 strength.

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - With more than 2,000 students scheduled to graduate amidst the COVID-19 pandemic this fall semester, Auburn University has announced that it plans to hold its fall commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 12. Contingent on weather, as well as current health and safety guidelines, the ceremony will be held in Jordan-Hare Stadium beginning at 8 a.m. Individual colleges and schools will recognize students at set times throughout the day.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University is recommending that as many people as possible get a flu shot as soon as they can. The Medical Clinic at Auburn University is offering walk-in flu shot clinics daily during this flu season. Additionally, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 14, flu shots can also be received in Room 2326 of the Harold D. Melton Student Center. Faculty is also encouraged to get their flu shot during their Healthy Tigers visit at the Auburn Employee Pharmacy.

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University fans have been encouraged to wear the Auburn Unity T-shirt on Friday, October 9 to demonstrate their support for the Together We Will initiative. The initiative was created by the Auburn Athletics Task Force on Inclusion and Race Relations and strives to “advance the Auburn Family in its quest toward positive action on diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
