Auburn, Ala. (EETV) – This past Thursday, November 5, Auburn University's University Program Council (UPC) brought a little bit of Broadway to campus with an outdoor screening of Hamilton at the Melton Student Center Patio.
The event, held from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., welcomed students to an evening of music, food, and a chance to enjoy one of Broadway's most popular musicals.
Hamilton, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, tells the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through a combination of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional musical theater. The production is widely recognized for its unique way of approaching American history and its memorable soundtrack.
For the screening, UPC transformed the patio into a cozy outdoor movie space. String lights illuminated the area while students gathered around picnic blankets, benches, and tables to enjoy the movie projected on a large screen. The evening also included food, popcorn, sodas, and themed stickers, giving attendees a little souvenir to take home.
One of the best parts of the evening was seeing how differently students enjoyed the event. Some arrived with large groups of friends, others came in pairs, and some simply showed up on their own. Attendees could enjoy the musical, grab some food, and even take home a few stickers, including one of Alexander Hamilton himself.
What made the night especially enjoyable was how comfortable and welcoming the atmosphere felt. No one felt pressured to arrive with a group or have plans beforehand. A few students even worked on homework while watching the musical, combining a study session with a fun campus experience. It was nice seeing everyone enjoy the evening in their own way.
Through events like Hamilton movie night, UPC continues to create opportunities for students to take a break from their academic responsibilities, enjoy shared experiences, and make the most of their time at Auburn.
For some, it was a night out with friends. For others, it was a chance to relax alone, finish homework, or enjoy a favorite musical. Personally, going alone reminded me that you don't always need company to make a great memory on campus. Sometimes, showing up is enough
