FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Auburn men’s tennis concluded its run at the M15 Fayetteville Futures Wednesday, with Tyler Bowers and Duje Markovina representing the Tigers in singles and doubles competition.
Bowers began the week in the singles qualifying first round Monday, falling to University of Oklahoma’s Alejandro Melero Kretzer 6-4, 6-4.
On Tuesday, Bowers and Markovina faced Loan Lestir and Marko Milosavljevic from the University of Memphis in the opening round of the doubles main draw. Bowers and Markovina won the second-set tiebreak but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-7.
Markovina earned a spot in the singles main draw and began his tournament Wednesday against University of San Diego’s Neo Niedner in the first round. Markovina won the opening set 6-1 before Niedner responded by taking the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 to earn the three-set victory.
Bowers and Markovina return to the Plains next week to compete in the ITA Southern Regional Championships at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, Oct. 8-12. The tournament draws will be released next week. Auburn will have the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in November in Athens, Georgia.
