AUBURN, Ala. — The No. 3 Auburn equestrian team opened its home slate with a 9-0 victory over Lynchburg in a Jumping Seat-only contest Thursday at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.
Auburn entered the season ranked No. 3 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association preseason poll and opened with a sweep on the Plains. The Tigers went 4-0-1 on the Flat before going 5-0 in Fences.
Auburn also claimed both the Most Outstanding Performer honors, with junior Ariana Marnell earning the honor on the Flat and freshman Taylor Cawley receiving the honor in Fences.
Cawley made an immediate impact in her first collegiate meet, winning both of her matchups. She posted an 86 on the Flat to beat Rebecca Collier, 86-79. She followed with an 88 in Fences to defeat Mary Katherine Ragsdale, 88-84.
Senior Avery Glynn and junior Kate Hagerty also picked up two wins each, while sophomore Emily Jurnovoy earned a win in Fences. Junior Sadie Berkhout rounded out the Flat lineup, earning an 84-84 tie against Kristin Palmer.
Auburn carried that momentum into Fences, where Jurnovoy earned the first point with a 78-73 result against Stella Patenaude. Glynn followed with an 87-80 victory over Rubin, while Cawley added her second win of the day. Hagerty and Marnell closed out the competition with scores of 86-83 and 87-84, respectively.
The Tigers will look to keep the momentum going as they return to the Auburn University Equestrian Center Friday to take on Bridgewater at 3 p.m. CT. Admission is free, and Auburn will also host a Kids Zone with pony rides, bouncy houses, and yard games.
