COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Auburn soccer team earned three points on the road Thursday night, defeating Missouri 2-0 at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. The Tigers improved to 6-1-3 overall and 2-1-0 in Southeastern Conference play with the win, while Missouri fell to 3-6-1. Auburn entered the match with a 4-5-2 all-time record against Missouri and a 1-3-1 mark in Columbia.
Auburn wasted no time finding its rhythm, taking a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Junior Kelly Gordon dribbled across the end line before finding Kennedy Husbands at the top of the six-yard box. Husbands finished the opportunity for her second goal of the season and her second consecutive match with a goal.
Just three minutes later, the Tigers doubled their advantage on a corner kick. Gordon once again played a key role, finding fifth-year Tahirah Turnage-Morales open at the near post. Turnage-Morales finished the chance to give Auburn a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute. The goal marked Auburn’s third corner-kick goal in its last two SEC matches after the Tigers scored twice off corners against Ole Miss.
The Auburn defense continued its strong run, holding Missouri to just seven total shots and two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Ayana Yapo recorded two saves to earn her eighth shutout of the season. The Tigers have now recorded eight clean sheets through their first 10 matches and have allowed just two goals all season, the fewest in the SEC and tied for third nationally.
Offensively, Auburn controlled much of the match, outshooting Missouri 21-7. The 21 shots marked the most Missouri has allowed in a game this season and the first time the Tigers had surrendered 20 or more shots since Auburn recorded 22 in last year's regular-season final.
With the victory, Auburn secured its second consecutive SEC shutout and its second conference win of the season. The Tigers also extended their recent defensive stretch after shutting out Ole Miss 3-0 in their previous match. Auburn’s defense has now allowed only two goals across 10 matches this season.
Auburn will remain on the road Sunday, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to take on the Razorbacks. The Tigers and Razorbacks will kick off at 1:30 p.m. CT on Sept. 27, with the match streaming on SEC Network+.
