TOLEDO, Ohio — Auburn men’s golf traveled north to Toledo, Ohio, earlier this week for the Inverness Intercollegiate, the Tigers’ first tournament of the 2026-27 season. After three days of action at Toledo’s Inverness Club, Auburn won with a team score of 11 over par, holding off host Toledo and East Tennessee State, both of which finished at 12 over par.
Sophomore Logan Reilly was instrumental in securing the win, shooting a career-best 66, 5 under par, in his final round Tuesday on the par-71 course. The score was doubly impressive after Reilly began the tournament Sunday 9 over, proving the sophomore already has the mental toughness to rebound and succeed in these competitive environments.
Alex Holder, another Auburn sophomore, matched his teammate Reilly’s 2-over-par performance across the three rounds, though Holder did so more consistently. The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native carded rounds of 72, 71, and 72, being a reliable addition to the Tigers throughout the three-day event.
Seniors Cayden Pope and Josiah Gilbert tied for 26th, each shooting a total of 7 over par for the event. Pope turned in an under-par round, shooting an impressive 3-under-par 68 Monday. Gilbert was the more consistent of the duo, carding a 72, 71, and 77.
Junior Billy Davis rounded out Auburn’s top five, finishing 8 over par, after carding rounds of 75, 71, and 75. The complete effort was enough to hold off a hard-charging Toledo squad that carded a combined 277 Tuesday, the lowest combined score by any team on a single day of the event. Auburn head coach Nick Clinard praised his team’s resiliency after the tournament.
“I thought the guys were really resilient,” Clinard said. “What a great test on a great golf course in a tough tournament. It wasn’t a clean tournament for us, but we made a few putts down the stretch that really mattered.
“I’m just really proud of this team,” Clinard added. “The standard is the standard for us, and we’re going to try and continue winning. We got to get better. There are so many great players and teams in college, but this was a good start for our talented team.”
The Tigers will next be in action at the Ben Hogan Collegiate in Fort Worth, Texas, where Auburn finished eighth last season. With no Auburn golfer finishing higher than 17th individually in 2025, they will be looking for better results this time around. The tournament will take place over two days, Sept. 28 and 29, at the Colonial Country Club.
