AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The City of Auburn added 11 new on-street parking spots to N. Gay St. between Magnolia and Tichenor Ave.
The new spaces are a direct result of the recent development at the location. David D. Dorton, the city's Director of Communications and Legislative Affairs, confirmed the spots were created in conjunction with the new AC Hotel construction.
“Construction of the new AC Hotel on Gay Street was an opportunity to provide additional street parking on Gay Street, with the developer agreeing to construct additional on-street parking and streetscape improvements as part of the construction," Dorton says, adding that the effort extends similar improvements previously made alongside the Auburn Bank building.
The eleven new parking spots operate under the city’s standard meter-parking system. One hour of parking costs $1, and the maximum stay is two hours for $2. Visitors can pay using the nearby kiosk or by using the ParkMobile app.
There are no discussions underway to add more parking at this time. Dorton emphasized that the city has a high volume of existing spaces.
“The Wright Street Parking Deck, completed in 2021, brought 350 public parking spaces to downtown Auburn. Now, there are more than 1,300 parking spaces available throughout downtown,” Dorton said.
He encouraged visitors to use the deck, noting that empty spaces are typically available, excluding home game days. Dorton also highlighted a recent upgrade to the deck's operating system, "to make entering and exiting a more seamless experience."
“There are no immediate plans for additional downtown parking as there is generally no capacity for additional on-street parking short of a redevelopment like the AC Hotel,” Dorton said.
