AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn and Missouri battled to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at the Auburn Soccer Complex in the Tigers' regular season finale.
Auburn struck first in the 20th minute when Dylan Driver scored to give the Tigers an early lead. Missouri answered late, as Hailey Chambliss found the equalizer in the 83rd minute to knot the game back up. Despite late efforts by both sides, the game would remain deadlocked for the remainder of time.
The result marked a frustrating finish for the Auburn Tigers, who controlled much of the match and appeared on their way to a home victory before Missouri’s late goal. Auburn’s defense, which is among the SEC’s most consistent throughout the season, held steady until the closing minutes. However, the late struggles have been a theme for the Auburn defense down the stretch, with the Tigers giving up multiple late equalizers and game-losing goals through the back half of the season.
Auburn controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Missouri 22-6 and holding nearly 60% of possession. The Tigers also recorded 10 corner kicks while limiting Missouri to four. Despite the overwhelming control, Auburn failed to find the second goal to seal it.
Missouri goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson was a difference-maker, finishing with nine saves. Auburn keeper Ayana Yapo stopped two of three shots on target to preserve the draw.
The tie moves Auburn to 5-5-7 overall and 1-3-6 in SEC play. However, thanks to Texas A&M's 3-0 loss to Kentucky, Auburn will play in the SEC Tournament as the No. 12 seed. Auburn will face yet another team of Tigers in LSU, a team that Auburn lost to at home 1-3 following a lengthy weather delay.
The match will be held at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex in Pensacola, Fla. on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. CDT. Should Auburn win, it would take on No. 4 seed Tennessee.
