Auburn Men’s Tennis concludes play at ITA Southern Regional Championships

Auburn Men’s Tennis traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala. this past weekend and wrapped up play on Monday at the ITA Southern Regional Championships at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium. 

Nicholas Heng and Joey Phillips, the Tigers doubles team, received a first-round bye over UAB. The duo went on to win twice on Sunday, first in a tiebreaker win over Lachlan Brain and Alex Despoja of North Alabama, and then over Sebastian Harrison and Vitorio Sardinha of Samford before falling to Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn of Ole Mississippi in the semifinals. 

The Blaydes brothers, Billy and Freddy, earned a doubles victory over Piotr Andrzejewski and Steven Rice of Tulane to reach the round of 16 before falling to Yeray Andres Pastor and Luciano Alcocer of Troy. Jake Kennedy and Hamza Nasridinov also advanced to the round of 16 via wins over University of South Alabama and University of Alabama before falling to Green Wave. 

In the singles main draw, Billy Blaydes and Nasridinov each advanced to the quarterfinals. Blaydes defeated Michal Novansky 6-4, 6-3 of Mississippi State, Daniel Phillips of Tulane 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-0, and Alabama’s Adnrii Zimnokh 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Nasridinov earned straight-set victories over Juan Accossatto of South Alabama, Stephan Noale of Troy, and Niccolo Baroni of Mississippi State. 

Thomas Kennedy qualified for the singles main draw after posting two wins in the qualifying draw, defeating Gianluca Filoramo of Louisiana and Martin Schwartzman of Samford. Phillips also picked up a win over Louis Boilvin of Troy in the main draw. 

Auburn Men’s Tennis will compete in the CCB Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala. from Oct. 24-26.
