CHARLESTON, S.C. – (EETV) Auburn women’s golf started off their fall campaign with a letdown at Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston for the Cougar Classic, finishing ninth and three over par through three rounds on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers won the Cougar Classic last fall, but after a lackluster first two rounds on Monday left the team at six over par and 11th place overall at the event. Day two made for a good bounce back for the team as they carded a team three under and moved up into ninth.
Coach Melissa Luellen of the Tigers commented on how the ladies would learn and take something away from a gritty early-week performance.
NCAA Preseason All-American Anna Davis fired an even-par 71 in round one and followed it up with a two-under 34 on the back nine in round two to shoot 70. The Junior sensation repeated her first round performance to finish tied 17th on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Balma Davalos followed up Davis’ performance with a similar one, carding two even par rounds on Monday before handing in her first round under par for the Tigers with her one-under 70 on Tuesday. She finished level with Davis at tied 17th.
Molly Brown Davidson, Carys Worby, and Charlotte Cantonis also attended the event, with Brown Davidson and Worby both carding round three one-under 70s. Brown Davidson ended the weekend one over and tied for 28th individually while Worby finished five over and Cantonis seven over in the Lady Tigers first match.
Auburn will look to pick up the scraps of this first performance in Aurora, Canada on Sept. 22nd and 23rd. The team will play Beacon Hill Golf Club for the Canadian Invitational Collegiate.
