Auburn Campus Safety speaks on increased communication with Auburn City Police

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – Last Thursday, Sept. 25, Vice President of Institutional Compliance Kevin Robinson and Assistant Vice President of Campus Security and Compliance Dr. Clarence Stewart spoke on collaborations between Auburn City Police and Auburn Campus Safety.

They emphasized the importance of communication between the two forces, which has been their goal and project particularly since Dr. Stewart’s appointment by Robinson in 2023.

“Having conversations with people who don’t think just like you may open some potential solutions you hadn’t thought of,” said Robinson, summarizing his greatest takeaway from his experience with campus safety.

“That’s [campus safety’s strategic communication plan] not just about what Auburn [University] can do for itself, it's about what Auburn can do for this city, this county, this state, for this nation, and internationally, too,” said Dr. Stewart, building upon the previous remark. “That’s one of those things that attracts people here [...] they can't put their finger on it, but most people that come here, if they visit and stay longer than a day, they don’t want to leave.”

With the elimination of these “town-and-gown” issues, i.e. conflicts between university interests and the surrounding government, the men emphasized that Auburn remained one of the safest campuses in the country.

“That’s what defines Auburn: the family, the communication, the commitment, the collaboration,” said Dr. Stewart, explaining that the safety of Auburn is not just a job to him–it’s a family matter that defines the campus.

“That’s why we take our job personally–we want to protect whatever ‘that’ is, that draws people here,” spoke Robinson.

Emphasizing awareness and safety, Dr. Stewart also urged students to report safety concerts to 911 or the non-emergency line at (334)-844-7400.
