Auburn's Upset Attempt Falls Just Short

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – What was almost a historic comeback win for the Tigers today came up just short, as they fall to the No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs 27-20.

The offense had a much better than last weekend in College Station, as they were able to put up 219 rushing yards. Jarquez Hunter and Robby Ashford were able to keep the Tigers in the game, as they each scored a rushing touchdown.

However, there still was a struggle with the passing game as only 88 passing yards were put up by Ashford and Payton Throne combined. Ashford only threw one pass to Brian Battie for a six-yard gain, while Thorne was 10-for-19 with 82 yards and an interception.

The defense was electric in the first half as they were able to get a fumble recovery and a Jaylin Simpson interception, his fourth this season. However, they gave up 17 points in the second half to give Georgia the lead and win.

The Bulldogs survived a scare in Jordan-Hare as Carson Beck was 23-for-33 with 313 yards, a touchdown pass to tight end Brock Bowers, and an interception. Running back Daijun Edwards had a big game today as he led the Dawgs with 76 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Hugh Freeze was aware of some of the passing struggles the Tigers had today, but does complement the run game with their crafty plays after the game.

“I think we’re going to have to run the football in a lot of different ways and make it look different. We did some of that today,” said Freeze. “Then, be able to complete the passes that we need to complete when they are open. But our identity has to stay balanced.”

The Tigers will have a bye week next week but will play the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 14. The kickoff time and network have yet to be announced.
