Purifoy delivers for first win in 'War Ready' history

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Danjel Purifoy puts No. 6 War Ready over No. 3 WoCo Showtime with 3-pointer to reach the target score, 70, defeating WoCo Showtime, 70-67.

TThe Basketball Tournament uses a system called the Elam Ending to end games where the clock is turned off with four minutes left and a target score of the winning team's score plus seven. This rule change promotes fast-paced play and does not slow down the end of the game with free throws.

Fletcher McGee for WoCo Showtime led the game in scoring with 15 points. Former Auburn Tiger TJ Dunans led War Ready with 12 points, and Danjel Purifoy and Tim Quarterman contributed 11 points.

War Ready finished the game on a 6-0 run to secure the win. War Ready's ability to force turnovers and score off of them gave them the edge in the matchup. WoCo Showtime had 18 turnovers compared to War Ready's nine and scored 24 points off of them.

Rebounding is a concern for War Ready heading into the next round after grabbing 30 boards. War Ready lost the rebound battle by 15 against WoCo Showtime. War Ready's small ball approach leads to a rebounding deficit by design but allows War Ready to play a fast-paced game, with the tallest player to get play time today being Danjel Purifoy standing at 6-foot-7.

War Ready looks to stay alive for the million-dollar prize and will play the Bucketneers, an alumni team from ETSU, Tuesday, July 26 at 5 pm CT.
