Students Protest at Toomer's Against New Mandated Vaccine Policy for Auburn Employees

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - After the announcement that Auburn will put into place a mandated vaccine policy for employees following President Biden's Executive Order 14042, students have taken to Toomer's to protest.

Outraged students and Auburn residents with signs that read, "Freedom not Force," "Tyranny Never Wins," "I Used to Believe in Auburn," "Our Body Our Choice," and more are protesting right now at Toomer's Corner. The wide array of people present at this protest include students, Auburn-area residents, and families, even young children with parents.

This protest is in response to the university's statement, which you can read more about here. This news was released in compliance with federal requirements that were put into place by President Biden's Executive Order 14042, which required federal contractors to provide adequate COVID-19 safeguards for their workforce. Auburn is classified as a federal contractor due to being a public research institution.

Every day, people with COVID are admitted into the hospital, put on ventilators, or pass away. In Alabama alone, there have been over 15,000 deaths from COVID-19.

Here is a message from the CDC website:

  • COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.
  • Millions of people in the United States have received COVID-19 vaccines under the most intense safety monitoring in U.S. history.
  • The CDC recommends you get the vaccine as soon as possible.
  • If you are fully vaccinated, you can resume activities that you did prior to the pandemic.

Keep yourself and your community safe by scheduling your vaccine appointment today.
