Burger Wars is Coming Back to Opelika

Opelika, Ala. (EETV) - The Opelika Rotary Club will be holding its 7th annual burger-grilling competition Saturday, June 5. The event taking place in downtown Opelika will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will have restaurants including Niffer's, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Auburn Tiger Dining, and more competing.

There will be three categories for competing burgers: Pros (restaurants), Corporate (other business groups), and Tailgaters (regular individuals). Additionally, the public will be able to purchase tasting tickets for $2 each beginning at 10:45 a.m, and each ticket buys a sample of one-quarter of a burger. After tasting, attendees will be able to vote for the Crowd Favorite.

Rotary Club President, Dixie Broadwater, discussed how excited they were to once more have Burger Wars in person. “After a very challenging year that forced our event to transition to a virtual competition, it will be wonderful to be back downtown on Railroad Avenue and get to see everyone enjoying all the great burgers."

The Big Bite Battle will be returning to Burger Wars as well, according to Kristen Ferrell, co-chair of Burger Wars. The Battle is an annual eating competition between the Auburn and Opelika Fire Departments and is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Opelika Rotary Club Charitable Foundation and its efforts to provide backpack meals for local food-insecure children.
