Thompson Unable to Lead Tigers to Victory Over No. 19 Arkansas

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – Despite Auburn's great start and Unique Thompson finishing the game with 19 rebounds and 18 points, the Tigers slowly gave way to Arkansas and fell to the 19th-ranked team Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers had a lead with 13 points through the first half, but the Razorbacks came back and pulled ahead so much that the Tigers could not get back.

"The energy was there," Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said.

"It was there yesterday in practice, it was there this morning in shootaround. They're right there. They're really working hard to get a win. It's hard to guard Arkansas because they spread you out so far. But we can't let our offense dictate how we play at the other end, we can't have letdowns on the defensive end because we miss a shot."

Thompson had her 11th double-double of the season and 53rd of her career with 18 points and 19 rebounds. Honesty Scott-Grayson had three assists and 17 points, and Keya Patton scored 10 points. Romi Levy had 12 rebounds and 8 points which was a career high.

The Lady Tigers had a season high of 50 rebounds while Arkansas had 30. On the floor the Tigers shot 34 percent (23-67) while Arkansas was at 44 percent (26-59). Auburn had a great night at the free throw line scoring 19 out of 21 shots.

Arkansas had their lowest-scoring quarter at the start of the game with an 18-9 lead to a 24-11 lead with 7 minutes left in the second quarter. But the Razorbacks came back to take the lead for the rest of the game with a score of 77-67.

For the Razorbacks Amber Ramirez led the team with 19 points followed by Chelsea Dungee with 16 and Destiny Slocum with 14.

The Tigers face No. 4 South Carolina in the Auburn Arena Thursday night for a 6 p.m. tip.
