Auburn's Hot Shooting Secures Home Opener Over South Alabama

Auburn, AL (EETV)- Auburn won their home opener against the South Alabama Jaguars by a final score of 90-81. The Tigers tied an SEC and school record of 22 made three point shots.

Freshaman guard Justin Powell had a breakout preformance with 26 points. Powell shot 7 of 9 from three-point range with nine assists and four rebounds.

Powell spoke after the game saying, "BP told me that I need to be more agressive and more assertive. I went out there thinking about that and the guys did job of finding me tonight."

Allen Flanigan finished second the team's scoring with 14 points and Jaylin Williams added 13.

Bruce Pearl spoke after tha game saying, "I thought we did a really job with our spacing. We had six guys with two or more three-pointers which means we have some guys that can shoot."

Auburn's fast start was the difference as they knocked down 13 of their 22 three pointers in the first half alone.

Despite the amount of three-point shots, the Tigers struggled to find points in the paint. "We have to be more physical under the basket," Pearl said, " We have to do a better job of getting them more touches."

After trailing by as much as 22 points, the Jaguars would cut the lead to single digits but it would not be enough.

Auburn's record is 2-2 and they will return to Auburn Arena on December 15th to face Texas Southern.
