Auburn to Face Northwestern in Citrus Bowl

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The Auburn Tigers will face the Northwestern Wildcats in the 2021 Vrbo Citrus Bowl in a New Year’s Day matchup as announced earlier today.

Last time the Tigers and Wildcats played each other, Auburn won the overtime match at the 2010 Outback Bowl. This meeting will only be the second time the two teams have faced off against each other.

Auburn will be attending the Citrus Bowl for the sixth time in program history. The Tigers are tied with Georgia, Florida, Michigan and Penn State for most appearances in the bowl’s 75 years.

The Tigers’ record in Orlando is 3-2, with their most recent appearance dating back to 2006. Northwestern has only appeared in the Citrus bowl once previously, losing in 1997.

Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. The matchup can be watched on ABC.

A limited number of tickets for the contest are available. Additional protocols will be implemented for the safety of both fans and staff. To read more about the precautions, visit floridacitrussports.com/covid.
