Auburn Falls To Texas A&M on Senior Day

Auburn, AL (EETV) Auburn wrapped up their home schedule against Texas A&M on Senior Day this past Saturday.

The 6th-ranked Aggies came into Jordan-Hare Stadium looking to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond completed 18 of 23 passes and totaled 2 passing touchdowns. He averaged 8.5 yards per pass with 196 yards total. The Aggies beat the Tigers in rushing, totaling 313 yards as a team.

On the offensive side for Auburn, Anders Carlson and Bo Nix were the only scorers. Carlson went perfect in PATS and field goals, which put 8 on the scoreboard for the Tigers. Bo Nix used his legs for the other two touchdowns. Tank Bigsby looked healthier on the field, yet Auburn was still held to 196 rushing yards.

Coach Gus Malzahn said his young quarterback has "guts". Early in the second quarter, Nix overthrew his wide-open receiver, Eli Stove, in which would've been the game-tying score. However, Nix cleaned it up with his viral, Johnny Manziel- like play. Later the same quarter, Nix scrambled all over the Aggie defense for a 5 yard touchdown.

"He competes. He's a great competitor," Malzahn said. "He did great things for us today."

Malzahn said his offense played well in the second quarter, but they need to work on redzone efficiency. "It felt like one of those games where you had to do well on every drive, and obviously the three-and-outs in the fourth quarter was tough," he explained.

Auburn's last win against a ranked team was against Kentucky this past August.

"We just didn't seize the moment", Malzahn said.

The Tigers finish off their season next weekend against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The game can been seen on Saturday, Dec. 12th at 6:30 p.m. on the SECN.
