AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University has announced their Spring 2021 academic plans which includes modifications to the academic calendar.
The modifications include a delayed start to the spring semester, replacing spring break with wellness days spreading throughout the semester and adding a reading day before final exams. The semester was designed this way in an effort to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmitting on campus from traveling. It also supports efforts to providing on-campus learning next semester.
Key elements of the spring calendar include:
Classes will begin on Jan. 11. The university will reopen on Jan. 4, as originally scheduled.
Spring break will be replaced with wellness days on Feb. 16, March 10 and April 1. Campus will remain open on these days; classes will not meet.
Classes will end April 22, with a reading day on April 23 for final exam preparation.
Final exams will be completed by April 30.
Commencement will be held May 1-3.
Other important things about the modified plan includes the decision to suspend study abroad programs due to the spread of COVID-19 internationally and that 70% of spring undergraduate course will be offered face-to-face with blended and online options as well. Students can review these different modalities when registering for classes.
The University continues to stress the importance of continuing to wear a face covering indoors, limiting classroom capacities, and practicing physical distancing. It is also important to continue doing the required Healthcheck and self-report positive cases.
