Women's Tennis Adds Five Wins to Music City Scramble

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn’s Women’s Tennis ended the Music City Scramble with five more wins on Sunday. 

The women were able to secure four singles wins in their six matches Sunday morning against Ole Miss. 

Selin Ovunc was a bright spot for the Tigers, with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Tiphanie Fiquet and a perfect 3-0 record in singles. Three more women were able to get their second win of the weekend. Georgie Axon and Taylor Russo both took their matches to match tiebreak winning 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7) and, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) respectively. Yu Chen defeated Kelsey Maze handily, with a match score of 6-2, 6-1. 

The Rebels’ Sabina Machalova defeated Carolyn Ansari, 7-6 (4), 6-0, while Shir Azran lost a hard-fought match against Elysia Pool, 7-6 (8), 6-4.

The double team of Ansari and Ovunc were able to get Auburn’s first and only doubles win of the weekend with a final score of 6-4, against the pair of Kurtz and Lee from Vandy. Russo and Azan found themselves on the wrong side of a 6-4 defeat against Vanderbilt’s Cruz and Staff in the Tigers’ last match of the weekend. 

Auburn will be in Tuscaloosa from Oct. 23-25 to compete in the Alabama Invitational.
