AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- The JDCAC Pumpkin Challenge, hosted by the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center and the Auburn Arts Association, is in full swing this fall 2020!
This challenge captivates all that the Halloween holiday entails- from spooky, to funny, creativity fuels the quality of these art submissions! That being said, the form of expression that the artists choose is their preference entirely. May it be a carving, a painting, sculptural representation, photograph, or another abstract form of art, all forms are accepted and encouraged. The only rules and guidelines are that a pumpkin is the main element and upon submission the category of the artwork is specified. This is essential, so that the piece can be evaluated based upon the criteria that specific category entails and it is understood who the work was produced by: an individual artist, a household with children, or a local business. Per usual, content must be original and appropriate for public viewing or else disqualification will result.
There is no entry fee, however by emailing edombrowski@auburnalabama.org or going to auburnalabama.org/arts and auburnalabama.org applications are provided to the public for registration which ends on Tuesday, October 27th at 5 p.m. Digital file types that are accepted include jpg/jpeg file formats with the maximum file size being 8 MB. Landscape, portrait or square orientations are acceptable. It suggested that background areas are cropped out, so the main concentration for judges is solely on the registered art piece.
Winners are announced shortly after the submission time frame terminates, on Friday, October 30th, 2020. Prizes are given to the Best Carve, Best Mixed Media Effects, and Best Children's Work. Each winner of that category will receive a $50 gift certificate prize , and a $25 gift certificate prize to the runner-up, which is applicable at any Auburn business of their choice.
