Auburn University debuts new license plates

The collegiate plate is available in Alabama and several surrounding states.

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn fans can now order a new collegiate license plate for their cars and motorcycles. The new design features the AU logo and orange and blue stripes with "Auburn" displayed across the bottom.

The Auburn tags allow for up to six characters and are free to personalize. Each tag costs $55 for first-time purchasers, plus the regular state vehicle fee of $24.95. Tag renewals cost $50 plus the normal tag cost. The plates can be purchased at any time, regardless of your tag's renewal month.

Proceeds from the license plates will go to Auburn's "License to Learn" Scholarship Endowment Fund. The statewide program awards over a million dollars worth of freshman scholarships each year.

Auburn tags are also available in Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Tag sales from North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas also benefit scholarships.
