Auburn Police arrest Opelika man on multiple charges of burglary and auto theft

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - On Wednesday, Dec. 4, Auburn Police arrested 30-year-old Opelika man, Robert W. Boich III, after he caused a car crash in a stolen vehicle at the intersection of Moores Mille and Ogletree Roads.

Boich was arrested on warrants charging him with: second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree theft of property, fourth-degree theft of property, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and feeling or attempting to elude officers.

Around 4 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Covington Ridge. power tools, jewelry and electronic devices valued at over $2,500 were stolen from the residence.

Shortly after, officers responded to a second residence where a 2020 Nissan Rogue had just been stolen. Officers in the vicinity of the residence, located at the 1700 block of Overton Road, observed the stolen vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

At this point, the driver fled and collided with two non-involved vehicles at the intersection of Moores Mille and Ogletree Roads. A non-involved driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

Boich then exited the stolen vehicle and attempted to flee the scene of the crash. He was apprehended after a foot pursuit by officers.

Further investigation, including video surveillance footage, property recovered from Boich and the stolen vehicle, determined he was responsible for the burglary on Covington Ridge. The investigation also revealed that he was responsible for another burglary at a residence in the 600 block of Moores Mill Drive where property valued over $500 was stolen.

Boich was transported to Lee County Jail, where he was being held on a $23,000 bond.
