Auburn Gets Ready for Homecoming Game Against Kent State

AUBURN, Ala (EETV) - After two big wins against Oregon and Tulane, the Auburn Tigers look to keep the winning streak alive as they take on Kent State Saturday night for the Auburn Homecoming game.

Auburn topped Tulane 24-6, but that win didn’t necessarily come easy for the Tigers. Freshman quarterback Bo Nix still had some hiccups in week two, but Head Coach Gus Malzahn is confident that he is improving. Malzahn said, “I think Bo has done some very good things and he will keep improving each week…Like I said last week, each game we are learning more about him and really learning more about our offense, too. That gives us the ability to improve each week.”

Another offensive struggle included multiple fumbles, three of them being by JaTaravious Whitlow. Gus Malzahn was not happy about this saying, “Yeah, it’s kind of common sense — to play, you’ve got to hold on to the football…I think we had four or five balls on the ground and really that is unacceptable.”

The defense shined Saturday night against Tulane as they kept the Green Wave to 2-15 on third down. A star of the game was Marlon Davidson, who had six tackles, tied for Auburn’s team lead in tackles. Davidson also contributed to keeping Tulane to only 103 passing yards.

Because of his success in Saturday’s game, Marlon Davidson was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week. This honor marks the second consecutive week an Auburn defender earned conference awards.

After going down right before halftime, sophomore wide receiver Seth Williams left Saturday’s game in a sling. Malzahn gave an update Tuesday saying, “Seth Williams will be out this week…we’ll see where he’s at, like I said Sunday night, about his availability for the next week. I think it’s kind of a day-to-day deal as far as that goes.”

Looking forward to Saturday, Gus Malzahn’s message to his team is this: “We need to keep improving and play good, clean football before we get into conference play next week.”

The Auburn Tigers will kick off against the Kent State Golden Flashes Saturday at Jordan-Hare at 6 p.pm CT. The game is the Auburn Homecoming game and Miss Homecoming will be announced at halftime. The game can be found on ESPN2.
