Tigers sweep Opening Day series with Longwood

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn goes victorious in their opening day series, sweeping Longwood in three games over the course of the weekend. The Tigers would close out their opening series with the Lancers with a 3-0 win Sunday.

Coming off a 25-1 win yesterday, Auburn was much less explosive tallying 6 hits compared to their 22 in the previous game.

Jay Estes, Conor Davis, and Will Holland would lead the Auburn offense, tallying 2 hits apiece. Davis would get the scoring going for the Tigers, doubling up the right field line in the 3rd inning. The hit would bring in Estes and Edouard Julien, giving Auburn a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Tanner Burns would get the pitching nod for Auburn. In his first collegiate start, Burns would face 19 batters, striking out 6.

The pitching rotation of Burns, Elliott Anderson and Calvin Coker would hold Longwood to 5 hits on the day.

Brett Wright would once again hold down the defense for Auburn. At the top of the 5th and bases loaded for Longwood, Mac McCafferty would make drop one in the right infield but Wright would make the play at the plate, tagging Justin Mitchell out at home.

The win gives the Tigers a 3-0 record to open up the 2018 season. Auburn will be back on the diamond Tuesday when they welcome Georgia State.

First pitch at Plainsman Park is set for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on the SEC Network +.
