Police search for evidence at an Opelika shopping center

Opelika man runs to shopping plaza after being shot

Opelika, Ala. (EETV) - One man was taken to the hospital by helicopter Tuesday night after being shot in the back.

The shooting took place in the 3400 block of Arnold Avenue

First responders found the man in the parking lot of Saugahatchee Square after he ran nearly a mile from the shooting scene.

The victim told police, "he was outside when he heard several gunshots and felt himself get shot"

The victim was taken to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, he was in stable condition when he was flown from the scene.
