Auburn man arrested for breaking into cars near campus

Auburn, Ala. (EETV)On August 22, 2017, Auburn Police arrested William David McConnell, age 38 from Auburn on warrants charging him with Breaking & Entering of a Motor Vehicle, Theft of Property 4th Degree, Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree & Receiving Stolen Property 4th Degree.

The arrest stems from an investigation into a report of a theft from a parked vehicle in the 100 block of Gay Street that occurred on August 18th. According to the victim, someone entered their 2012 Audi A4, and stole an electronic device.

Further investigation into the incident resulted in McConnell being developed as a suspect; he was captured on video surveillance and identified. Warrants were obtained for his arrest charging him with B&E Auto and Theft of Property. He was subsequently located by officers and taken into custody on those charges as well as the unrelated charges of Possession of Marijuana and Receiving Stolen Property.

McConnell was transported to the Lee County Jail where he remains in custody on a $6,000 bond.
