Fort Benning man arrested in Auburn on multiple charges

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - On April 22, 2017, Auburn Police arrested Jorge Alejandro Torres, age 23 from Fort Benning, Georgia on warrants charging him with unlawful Breaking & Entering of a motor vehicle and Theft of Property 2nd Degree.

At about 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning Auburn Police responded to a suspicious person call on Interstate 85 near the Bent Creek Exit. Officers located an individual, later identified as Torres, riding a bicycle along the interstate.

Further investigation into the incident by Auburn Police resulted in Torres being developed as a suspect in an unlawful breaking & entering of a motor vehicle and theft of property case. Officers recovered a back pack in his possession that contained assorted electronics, jewelry and sunglasses valued at over $2,000. The property was identified as being stolen hours earlier from a 2012 Toyota Corolla, which was parked downtown in the 100 block of Tichenor Avenue.

Torres was subsequently identified as the person responsible for unlawfully entering the vehicle and taking the property and detectives obtained arrest warrants and took him into custody.

He was transported to the Lee County Jail where he remains in custody pending a $6,000 bond.
