Auburn man taken into custody on multiple charges

At approximately 2:55 a.m. an Auburn Police Division Sergeant performed a traffic stop on a 2010 Pontiac G6 on North Ross Street. After stopping the vehicle and as the Sergeant approaches, he observed a weapon in the vehicle at which time the driver attempted to leave. The Sergeant attempted to extract the driver from the vehicle and was knocked to the ground as the vehicle sped away. The Sergeant was injured as he fell to the ground and transported to EAMC where he was treated and later released.

After a brief search, responding Officers located the suspect and vehicle at a residence in the 500 block of Harper Ave. The suspect attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended after a foot pursuit. Derrick Demarious Bryant, 27 of Auburn was taken into custody and charged with Assault II, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Resisting Arrest, and Carrying a Pistol without a Permit. Bryant was transported to the Lee County Jail and is being held on a $35,000 bond.
